How would you manage to keep warm at home if your radiators weren’t working? This is something more people than you might think have to deal with when the cold weather sets in, and they realize their radiators are no longer as efficient as they should be. If this is the case for you, contacting a heating engineer to fix the issue is the best course of action. But what could be the problem? Here are some ideas.

The Sludge Issue

Sludge – a mixture of dirt and rust from within your pipework or the inside of your radiator – is a thick substance. It will settle at the bottom of your radiator, and over time, the level will rise. The sludge will increase and prevent the radiator from working correctly if nothing is done, leaving no room for hot water. As it is, even with a little sludge, that means less hot water is in your radiator, and therefore it will be colder than usual.

If you have sludge in your radiator or a sludge blockage in your pipework, contact us to assist with a power flush. Doing this will blast the sludge away, ensuring your radiators are much more efficient.

The Boiler Issue

When your boiler is failing in some way, it won’t heat the water in your home. When this happens, and no hot water can enter the radiator, it won’t get warm. The radiator doesn’t heat the water – it takes in already hot water and stores it so that the room it is in can benefit. If cold water enters the radiator, cold is what it will produce, not heat.

Your boiler should be serviced annually to keep it in excellent condition, but even so, it’s not going to last forever. If your boiler is old and inefficient, it might be time to consider a replacement. It could make all the difference, giving you heat and hot water at the temperature you want once more.
