With energy prices rising, it is little wonder that many people are looking for ways to make more efficient use of their heating and hot water and change how they use their boilers during the colder months.
The good news is there are a few different things you can do to save money on your boiler use and hot water.
Boiler Service
Inefficient boilers use more energy to run than newer boilers or those serviced regularly; before you start to look at ways to reduce your energy bills, have your boiler serviced to ensure it is in good condition and working as it should be.
Lower Your Flow Temperature
This should only be done if you have a combi boiler but lowering your flow temperature to around 60 degrees or lower can help you to save 6 – 8% on fuel bills.
Turn Off Pre Heat Settings
If your boiler has preheat settings to turn the hot water on at a specific temperature instantly, you could be waiting for money. Your boiler will fire up every 90 minutes to maintain this temperature, and if you are out of the house for more extended periods or don’t require instant hot water constantly, then it could be worth you turning this feature off if you can.
Isolate Radiators
Everyone knows you should bleed your radiators frequently to avoid cold spots and inefficient heating; however, turning down radiators in rooms that aren’t used often or turning them off altogether using the toggle on the side of the radiator can help you to save money by not heating rooms that don’t need to be heated.
